2022-2023 IHC Executive Board Position Descriptions
President
- Serve as the primary representative for IHC and for all on-campus students to all University departments and functions.
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly IHC meetings and discussions while maintaining order and focus.
- Prepare agendas, with assistance from the VPA, for the weekly IHC general meetings.
- Coordinate and facilitate weekly Executive Board meetings and maintain open communication with the advisor(s).
- Plan, implement, and participate in IHC communitywide quarterly events.
- Appoint committees and commissions and/or delegate authority as supported by the members.
- Meet biweekly with the Executive Director of University Housing.
- Facilitate quarterly 1:1 meetings with each Community Council President
- Forward formal bills or resolutions to be submitted to the appropriate organization or University office as necessary.
- Serve as a non-voting member of IHC, except in IHC elections, and may vote only in case of a tie of the voting membership.
Vice President for Administration (VPA)
- In the absence of the IHC President coordinate and facilitate weekly IHC meetings (or Executive Board meetings) and discussions while maintaining order and focus.
- Manage the office hours schedule and inventory of the Residential Outreach & Leadership Office
- Secretarial Duties
- Prepare typed agendas, in conjunction with the IHC President, for the weekly IHC general meetings and distribute them to IHC members and advisors prior to each meeting.
- Record, submit, distribute, and post IHC minutes via e-mail to designated recipients.
- Notify members of meetings in a timely manner, distribution method to be determined by IHC.
- Maintain attendance records at IHC meetings.
- Keep a current list of all officers and committee members.
- Maintain IHC archives, which should include IHC meetings minutes and agendas, committee minutes and agendas, amendments, and resolutions to IHC bylaws.
- Assist President in the overall function of Inter Housing Council (IHC) business.
- Chair all IHC Event Committees, including Event Team
- Plan, implement and participate in IHC communitywide quarterly events and outreach.
- In the absence of the IHC President and VPM, coordinate and facilitate weekly IHC meetings (or Executive Board meetings) and discussions while maintaining order and focus.
- Attend all Event Team meetings and take minutes.
- Serve as a non-voting member of IHC, except in IHC elections, and may vote only if serving in the capacity of the IHC President (only in the case of a tie in the IHC voting membership).
Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (VPDEI)
- Take minutes if VPA is out.
- Bring a DEI lens to Advocacy Board Meetings and other Inter Housing Council
related meetings to ensure inclusive language is being used and that everyone’s
voices are being heard - Teach those in Inter Housing Council how to use inclusive language and how to
minimize unconscious biases as a means to spread the awareness to other students on campus - Enhance students’ residential experience by ensuring that all housing related
activities are inclusive and able to be enjoyed by everyone - Listen to other students’ concerns and experiences while also showing
empathy and validating their emotions - Know and promote resources for residents to use in cases of being discriminated
against or feeling excluded - Assist President in the overall function of IHC business.
- Plan, implement, and participate in IHC communitywide quarterly events.
- Design, develop, and distribute the marketing materials for all IHC programs, events, and outreach efforts in accordance with all University Housing and campus posting policies.
- Liaise with outreach and event partners to jointly develop marketing partnerships and advertising.
- Create and distribute a newsletter that informs residents, leaders, and campus entities of IHC accomplishments and future plans.
- Serve as a non-voting member of IHC, except in IHC elections, and may vote only in case of a tie of the voting membership.
