The Inter-Housing Council is a representative group of students consisting of the President from each Hall and Community, and four executive officers (President, Vice President of Finance, Vice President of Programming, and Vice President of Administration). Seeking to enhance the on-campus experience, these elected officials meet bi-weekly to converse about topics directly pertaining to students who live on campus.
Notice: Everyone who lives in Cal Poly's University Housing is a part of IHC!
The Inter Housing Council (IHC) is the central component of University Housing’s student voice and works to empower campus residents to play an active role in their communities through service, educational and social programming, and leadership opportunities. IHC also serves as the main voice/student government body for University Housing and provides important student input into departmental policies and procedures, as well as other campus issues. In addition, IHC enacts change through advocating for students’ needs with the ultimate goal of making Cal Poly housing communities more respectful, exciting, and united. As IHC tries continuously to improve life on campus, we also wish to extend a hand to anyone who wants to be a part of the process. As anyone who lives on campus has a say, so, too, can they use that voice to express any query they should have. IHC was created for the benefit of the on-campus residents, and we encourage anyone to use it to the fullest.
IHC provides an excellent starting point for broader campus leadership opportunities. Becoming a part of IHC, Hall Council or Community Council can lead to other avenues in student leadership from major and College-specific to student body wide.
In addition to experiencing richer collegiate years, a resident's time spent in the Resident Leaders Program will assist in developing communication, leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. These skills will enable residents to achieve greater success academically and help students to be more competitive in the job market after graduation. Joining leadership teams in this and any part of leadership on campus can greatly enhance all of these skills.
